Climate Leadership & Green Skills

Climate action lasts when people can lead it.

We build the knowledge, skills and confidence people need to lead and sustain climate action.

Furaha & Baraka Farms (FBF) runs the Green Scholars Programme, a climate leadership and green skills pathway for young people aged 12 to 24 in Kenya: eco-clubs and bootcamps in schools, micro forests, debates and climate innovation challenges, and field placements for university students. It is practical and hands-on, designed to complement Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum, and sits alongside FBF's training for communities, farmer groups and field teams in restoration and digital monitoring.

Programme in action

Climate Leadership & Future Readiness Bootcamp

In August and September 2026, FBF and the ARISE Foundation ran a five-day after-school bootcamp for all 89 Grade 9 learners at Gongoni Comprehensive School, in the Vipingo Special Economic Zone, Kilifi County.

Learners worked in ten teams through six modules: climate leadership and environmental stewardship; leadership and responsible citizenship; life skills; ethics, integrity and personal values; financial literacy and entrepreneurship; and career pathways. Sessions were hands-on: compound walks to record what they saw, role plays on real dilemmas, group budgets and subject-to-career matching. Knowledge rose from 51% of learners conversant with the topics before the bootcamp to 87% after. At the close, every learner, teacher and facilitator planted a tree: 110 in all, the start of a school micro forest that the learners have committed to care for.

For partners

What working with us on green skills looks like

What it is
The Green Scholars Programme for ages 12 to 24, plus practical skills training for communities, farmer groups and field teams.
What to expect
A conversation about the group and the outcome you want, then a proposed programme, partners on the ground and how progress will be recorded.
What you gain
Participants who can do the work, not just attend: skills practised in the field, activities logged in our app, and follow-up after training ends.
The wider contribution
Climate action that lasts because local people can lead it, caring for restored land and running the nurseries and businesses behind it.

Common questions

FBF's climate leadership and green skills pathway for young people aged 12 to 24: Junior Green Scholars (ages 12–14), Senior Green Scholars (15–18) and Green Fellows (18–24, university level). It runs through school eco-clubs, bootcamps, micro forests, debates, climate innovation challenges and field placements, and is designed to complement Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum.

Seven modules in three clusters: foundations (environmental stewardship, leadership and global citizenship, life skills), the green economy (career pathways, financial stewardship) and the future (planning ahead, climate technology). Each module follows a four-step cycle: observe, understand, solve, protect.
