Growing Hope: 644,860 Trees and a Stronger Community

Between January and June 2025, we facilitated the planting of 644,860 trees across Kenya. This figure is more than a milestone. It is a symbol of what is possible when grassroots commitment, climate vision, and partnerships converge.

From the coastal mangrove restoration efforts in Kwale County to tree planting campaigns in 263 learning institutions across 13 counties, our reach has been wide, but our roots go even deeper.

This achievement reflects the collaborative spirit that underpins all our work, do not just plant trees. We build partnerships, invest in communities, and inspire action at every level of society. This first half of the year has shown us the power of community-led restoration.

Our work would not be possible without the incredible support of women and youth, who continue to lead the charge for a greener, healthier future. Women make up a large percentage of our nursery staff, community mobilizers, and tree monitoring teams. Their local knowledge, care, and consistency are the backbone of our programs. In schools, students in our Eco Clubs have taken ownership of their campuses and neighborhoods, leading tree-planting activities and nurturing seedlings with remarkable dedication.

Through our Green Scholars Program, we are mentoring the next generation of environmental leaders. Selected students receive mentorship, scholarship support, and practical exposure to reforestation and sustainable agriculture. The future is growing, quite literally, in their hands.

But none of this work can be done in isolation. Our growing network of partners has been instrumental in making this impact possible. From local government and educational institutions to corporate supporters and international collaborators, each partner has brought something unique to the table. Funding, expertise, and boots on the ground.

Together, we have planted 28 different species of trees, from fast-growing exotics to climate-resilient indigenous varieties. Each seedling contributes to carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and improved soil health. Each tree is a living response to the climate crisis.

In Tsunza, Kwale County, our coastal reforestation initiative reached a new milestone with the support of partners like Seahorse Energy, ABSA Life Assurance, and the Kenya Ports Authority. Over 342,000 mangroves have now been planted. The community forest associations at the heart of the effort have in turn become an inspiring model for what community ownership can look like in restoration work.

These achievements remind us that climate solutions must be local, inclusive, and sustained. Our model places people at the center, especially women and the youth, who are often left out of environmental conversations. It gives them tools, knowledge, and the opportunity to act.

As we enter the second half of the year, we are doubling down on our mission to green Africa through community, innovation, and stewardship. We will deepen our engagement with schools, expand our carbon offset projects, and launch new community action hubs that bridge environmental action with livelihood improvement.

To everyone who has planted, funded, mentored, trained, tracked, or cheered us on, thank you.

You are part of this forest. This future.

Let’s keep growing. Together.
